A long time coming.

Building the best truckload company in the industry was the ambition of four cousins—Randy, Keith, Gary and Kevin Knight. By the time they started the company in 1990, they had already acquired more than 80 years of trucking experience between them, enough to know that there was a better way to run a trucking company.

From the very beginning, Knight was a company focused on safe, sensible growth, built on financial strength and a commitment to working together with customers to achieve mutual goals. Our intensive management style emphasizes efficiency, so we always strive to simplify operations, reduce costs, increase safety and keep our trucks and trailers in service. We handle every load as if it was our own, and we’re constantly finding new ways to better serve our customers and advance our business.

Knight Transportation has become the most remarkable success story in the truckload industry. Revenues have grown from over $13 million in 1991 to over $500 million in 2006, with operating ratios at or near 80% year after year. Starting with just a handful of trucks and one Service Center in Phoenix, Arizona, we now run a fleet of over 3,600 tractors and more than 8,500 trailers from 27 Service Centers nationwide. We’ve grown from a few associates to more than 4,000, and from a family-owned business to a publicly held company trading on the New York Stock Exchange(KNX). Forbes Magazine has named us to its list of Top 200 Best Small Companies 12 years in a row.

Where we grow from here.

We’re very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish with the hard work of our associates and the confidence of our customers and shareholders. But no matter how big we grow, we’ll never lose the personal touch that built our business. We’ll always be “Your Hometown National Carrier.”
