From Heavy Duty Trucking: How Knight-Swift Is Delivering Real-World Results

In its 2026 feature, Heavy Duty Trucking, highlighted Knight-Swift’s data-driven approach to emissions reduction across one of the largest fleets in the industry, with approximately 25,000 heavy-duty trucks.

Since 2019, Knight-Swift has achieved a 9% reduction in CO₂ emissions per mile, driven by measurable improvements in fuel economy, network efficiency, and equipment technology.

A key differentiator is our in-house Environmental Management System, which evaluates the real-world performance of technologies such as renewable diesel and battery-electric trucks – ensuring investment decisions are guided by operational data.

HDT also noted Knight-Swift’s continued progress in fleet electrification, including the development of charging infrastructure and a microgrid in Southern California to support electric trucks and yard operations. At the same time, the company is expanding its use of renewable diesel and biodiesel wherever feasible.

Beyond fleet operations, Knight-Swift is making strides across its facilities through solar energy generation, energy efficiency initiatives, and recycling programs.

Looking ahead, we continue to test and scale a range of solutions as it works toward its goal of reducing CO₂ emissions per mile by 50% by 2035.
