Drivers at Knight’s Indianapolis terminal feel the difference right away. Many have worked elsewhere and know what it’s like to feel like just a number. But here, they’re valued as people first.
At Knight, the open-door policy makes it easy for drivers to talk directly with their leaders.
“It’s all about communication,” Jeremiah Combs explains. “We have what we call an expectation exchange. It’s a two-way conversation between drivers and their driver managers. We share our expectations for success, but we also listen to theirs, whether it’s home time, culture, or career growth.”
That kind of honest, adult-to-adult dialogue helps build trust and ensures everyone is working toward the same goals.
Training the Next Generation of Drivers
The Indianapolis terminal is also home to Knight’s CDL school and Top Gun program, both of which play a vital role in developing the next generation of safe, skilled drivers.
“We’re not a big CDL mill,” said instructor David Southwood. “We care about the people, not just their tuition. Every student gets hands-on training and real support.”
The Top Gun program helps new drivers refine their skills and prepare for success on the road, while trainers pass on their knowledge and experience to help others thrive. “I can only run one load a day,” David said. “But if I train good drivers, that turns into hundreds of safe loads every day.”
