A career within the trucking industry provides both a steady income and an adventurous way to see America. Professional truck drivers make on average $43,680 yearly and around $21.00 per hour, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Some drivers will make much more than this. In fact, the more experience a driver has, the more they are likely to earn. Here are the outlook and trends for experienced truck drivers.

The life of a professional trucker is one of adventure, fulfillment, and accomplishment. Being a trucker’s spouse can be just as fulfilling, if the role is approached properly. A trucker’s family can either embrace or fight against the responsibilities that accompany such an occupation. Long-haul or over-the-road trucking can be a lonely profession. There are many hours spent on the roads, without the companionship available in other career fields. Thankfully, though, many trucking companies, including Knight Transportation, do have an allowance for pets, giving drivers much-needed companionship while on the road.

Fatigue is the result of physical or mental exertion that impairs performance. Driving a truck at a speed that is greater than a reasonable standard for safe driving is extremely dangerous, especially when dealing with difficult road conditions.

In the year 2010, there were an estimated 1.6 million tractor-trailer drivers currently employed throughout America. Just two years after that, the number increased to 1.7 million. While that might not seem like a lot just reading the number, in actuality, that increase represents the addition of 50,000 more drivers to the tractor-trailer driver career path each year. In 2015, The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced a new Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) mandate to be implemented by the end of 2017. The new mandate has obviously come with a host of questions as it relates to how the mandate will change the trucking industry.
